Plovdiv, Bulgaria, hosted this year's Bruxelles Concours Mondial where took part 8750 wines from 52 countries, in front of 320 of the best tasters in the world. The competition, which highlights the trends and changes in the wine world, has awarded four wines and champagnes Castle Gold medals of gold and silver.
The winners were:
- Gold medal for the Flama d’Or Brut. Cava made with Xarel.lo, Macabeo and Parellada, aged at least 14 months and a second fermentation in the bottle. DO Cava.
- Gold medal for the Francolí Black Book 2009. Wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Tempranillo (40%). Conca de Barbera.
- Silver medal for the L’Arboç 1919 Brut. Cava made by the wine cellar of l'Arboç with the varieties Xarel·lo, Macabeo and Parellada, with a minimum of 12 months aging. DO Cava.
- Silver medal for the Flama d’Or Brut Rosat. Cava made with 100% trepat, second fermentation in the bottle and minimum of 12 months. DO Cava.
